A young tree needs deep, slow water in its first seasons, and a hose rarely stays in place long enough. Zip one of these green bags around the trunk, fill it through the wide opening and it lets the water out through small holes at the base over one to five days. We thickened the PVC and widened the seams so they survive the season.
Wrap the bag around the trunk and zip the two sides together.
Fill it to about a quarter, then lift the two black straps to open the bottom fully.
Finish filling with the hose through the top opening.
Refill every few days through the first summer, or when the bag runs empty.
